Spurgeons Children's Charity

In 1867, Baptist preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon, driven by a desire to tackle poverty and injustice, and backed by a gift of £20,000 from Anne Hillyard, the widow of an Anglican clergyman, founded an orphanage. 150 years later, his legacy lives on and the work of Spurgeons Children’s Charity is as relevant now as it was then.

They have been working with disadvantaged and vulnerable children for 150 years through the delivery of support and intervention services, and by speaking up on behalf of those who need us most. In the last year, the charity has made a real difference to the lives of almost 3,000 children, young people and adults and protected 1,200 from neglect, harm and abuse.
