Re: Martin Luther King Jr: 1929-1968
We are fortunate to have had the 'I have a dream' speech. It was as Martin was 'winding down' his speech and moving to the final section, when the great singer Mahalia Jackson, sitting a few seats to one side of him called across 'Tell them about the dream, Martin, tell them about the dream'. It was obviously something he had spoken of with some of his closest friends and used in some earlier speeches. He put his notes to one side and launched into the words which are now so familiar to many around the world. If ever the Holy Spirit prompted anyone it was Mahalia that day, and the words given to Martin Luther King were words for a nation and a waiting
world.

Re: Understanding the meaning of the cross
We Christians understand enough of what the cross represents to us to know the cross is God's immeasurable love for us. "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 8:5
Marsha Deivert Bradley

As Christians we might understand just enough, although for me the idea of coming with questions speaks to me the most from the article. The difficulty for me, and many other Christians I come across, is being able to explain the cross in a meaningful way to those who have little knowledge of who Jesus is, without resorting to quoting scripture (which won't mean a lot to many) or cliches that don't stand up to their scrutiny. Going to have a further think about this......
